They are light for a full boot, don't really need breaking in, and have great grip and water-proofing. Seriously, do yourself a favor and try them on somewhere. The best $140 I've ever spent.
I wore them almost every day this winter for the 3 months we have snow on the ground, and for a lot of winter hiking as well. I'm going to buy another pair just for the future when these die, I like them so much. They were Backpacker magazine's "Boot of the year" or something like that. Didn't know it when I bought them, I just loved how they fit.
Also, they're great if you have narrow feet, forgot to mention that.
