Consumerism is a poison introduced into us from birth, and humans are herd (troupe, village) animals used to following "the rules" often without being deeply concerned about why.
For urbanized pops, "nature" is some abstract thing. I read a statistic recently, which I somehow can't believe, that said IIRC a little under half of children aged 6 or so didn't know milk comes from cows. And that's not even nature!
