>>589526the mossberg JIC is not a backpacking gun, nor is it intended to be, it's at best meant to be kept on a boat, but more likely it's meant to be buried behind the garden shed, you know, just in case.
Stockless, pistol grip shotguns are a huge waste of time, money, energy and effort if you actually plan on doing anything other than shooting beer cans. If you want something small and unobtrusive, get a handgun, if you want something for shooting birds and small game, get a shotgun, don't get a gimmick that attempts to do both while failing to do either.
Also, with the JIC you're essentially paying a $200 premium for a waterproof tube that is also ridiculously impractical unless you plan to buy it, in which case, you're literally throwing your money away.
I don't have the JIC, but I do have a Mossberg Cruiser I bought from a friend as a project gun, and I have used it in it's cruiser configuration, so I can say with some certainty that it's a huge piece of shit made to appeal to 18-20 year olds that can't legally buy handguns (like the guy who originally bought what became my shotgun).
If you want a shotgun to hike with an o/u with 26" barrels that you can take down would probably be your best bet. If you want something small and unobtrusive for killing bears, get a Smith and Wesson 29.
