Sailing is pretty expensive unfortunately I got into it pretty late by jumping into an RYA competent crew qualification which cost around £500 for a week sailing. Not too bad I suppose and pretty cool I got to sail to France on my first ever trip. There are probably cheaper ways of doing it and i've heard of people just going to docks and asking around if they can go on a yacht for the day and barter a price. Abseiling is so much fun! The gear that you buy is really useful in other sports as well so definitely take that up anon.
