>>105444The easiest way to put a kayak on a car is a kit of four blocks of stiff foam-rubber that fit around it's cockpit rim. Then a set of four ratchet style straps hooked to each end of the kayak and outwards to wherever you can hook them, usually around the corners of the trunk and hood.
DO NOT do this if you care about the finish on your car. A kayak is a severe aerodynamic load and it will twist around back and forth at highway speeds. I thought I was going to lose mine when I went through a thunderstorm with 30 mph side-winds. It did end up scratching my roof up in all four places where the pads were.
If you care about your car, and to make loading it much easier, just put a hitch on your car and get a small trailer.
As far as what to buy, kayaks are pretty simple beasts. Try for as light-weight as you can get, because you will need to carry it with one arm over obstacles. Also as much storage space as you can get in front and rear compartments.
