I was just at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in D.C. Nearly their entire collection of Mississippian Era fossils comes from a location not far from where I live. I've already found some of the fossils that were in the Smithsonian in a creek bed out back, mostly just crinoid stems. I want to see if I can find some fish fossils or even just the head of a crinoid by looking through the shale and limestone slabs in the creek.
It's something that I'm going to look into when it gets warmer though, because wading through a creek in 30 degree weather isn't a good idea.
