>>902615After leaving the diner, I walked some more miles before coming upon a Walmart. After pausing outside to eat a nice bowl of watery oatmeal, cranberries, clover, and dandelion greens, I went inside to steal some poptarts. I'm not trying to gloss over the fact that I stole anything, but I was short on money and I knew I'd never see that town again.
As soon as I left the Walmart and walked maybe a block, 40-something gentleman was just exiting a hardware store where he was picking up his repaired lawnmower. He asked if I needed a ride, which I gratefully accepted. I helped him load up his lawnmower, and off we went. Along the way, we shared some conversation about life, and he offered me a coffee thermos filled with blunt roaches. Of course I accepted; too bad he couldn't smoke with me. He explained that he had to be clean from THC to refill his opiate prescription for some sort of spinal injury.
Some minutes later, he offered me a shower at his home, which I accepted. We arrived, and I helped unload the riding lawnmower from the back of his pickup truck. After showering, he told me about what his job, his wife, his kids etc. I believe he worked on security systems for homes. It shames me to say, he gave me his number to call him later, but I later lost the slip of paper with his information on it due to negligence.
