I've got a spooky coyote story for ye.
>be me
>about 12
>grow up in a log cabin in New England surrounded by thousands of acres of dark forest
>not unlike The VVitch
>me and my brother (14) get in the habit of sneaking out at night sometimes
>sometimes go down our long driveway to hang out by the street
>sometimes go for spooky walks in the woods at night, daring each other to go on deeper and deeper
>one night we just really go for it, no flashlights, just navigating with what little skylight leaks through the canopy above
>these woods used to be a farm dating to about 1690
>once you find the stonewall you can follow it for a couple miles until you reach a road
>we follow it, eventually it intersects another wall where the farm ended, the cedar forest begins here and it's perhaps the only spot in town that was never cleared or inhabited in 300 years
>literally the hauntedest woods you could find especially at night
>worse than the VVitch's woods in the movie, way worse †bh
>we continue on
>navigate along the rough and rooty trail through the haunted cedar forest
>finally pop out at the road, now maybe an hour from home, pretty much pitch dark
>decide we'll just walk the road home, maybe 30mins rather than go through all that bullshit winding through the forest
>country town, no cars would be on the road anyway
>as we start walking down the road I look behind me, in the distance there's a single street light at the end of the road
>see the silhouettes of an entire pack coyotes silently coming out of the woods into the blackness behind us
>fml
that was a long fucking walk home but luckily nobody got ate.
also pickerel! the exact same street light at the end of the road taken from the same location, just many years later when I brought some friends along the spooky walk while we were camping out in the woods
