>>1564209>wind 12 - 18km/hpaddling against that will be brutal, bordering on effectively impossible. you'll have almost no draft, so you'll have almost no force except your paddling to hold against the wind, and in a raft you have a huge footprint from almost all angles, and shitty leverage. if you could hug the shore to shelter against it you could work your way along, but no fucking way across 2 open miles. kayaks and canoes have a much more efficient silhouette and better paddling positions, so they can handle opposing wind much better.
source: i have a cheapo raft i take up to the sierra to dink around in, and the slightest wind fucks me.
