ugly sticks have a few merits, they're near indestructible, and hit well above their weight class, i use a medium power 7' ugly stick for some pretty dumb shit, and if all you really do is drown worms, then go for it, you won't be disappointed. if you would rather be fishing lures, however, a there are quite a few rods at a similar price point that will serve you better. for example, i have a shimano stimula that i very much like for finesse stuff, and that can be had off amazon for ~ $20 and honestly it would probably be perfect for you with 6 pound or maybe 8 pound mono. the berkley lightning stick is the bepis shill, i have no experience with it but it sounds solid enough. if you want something a little nicer, you could go for the fenwick eagle for ~60 bucks. what these rods offer that the uglystick can't is sensitivity and weight advantages, as well as better action. if you're just soaking bait, then those things don't really matter, you'll have a bobber to watch, or you'll be bottom fishing and see your rod tip bounce. but if you're fishing lures then you are going to be making a lot of casts, be holding your rod a lot, and be wiggling it constantly, and with a heavy rod like an ugly stick, that can get fatiguing, and you're going to miss a lot more takes with the ugly stick if you're doing finesse stuff like fishing worms or similar simply because you won't feel a light take.
this probably turned in to a text wall, so
>tl;druglystick is fine if you are just soaking bait but if you're fishing lures you wan't a rod that has more sensitivity, less weight, and a better action
