I can do a nice short hike to the top of any of several 10,000' peaks less than a half hour from home and have a much more expansive view than I had when I stood atop Emory Peak. The snow covered peak in picrel is more than 12,000'. Took this photo 3 miles from home. I would be willing to bet that more texicans have seen this peak in my state than have seen any of those "massive" mountain ranges that you refer to in west texas.
