>>1336031>good private areas within two or so hours of ScrantonNot private, but I think ricketts glen is the most beautiful place in PA, it's only 45 minutes from Scranton/Wilkes Barre. The state operates a campsites (with running water and bathrooms), there's a lake with fishing, and the famous 21 waterfall trail. Try to go on the weekdays if you go here.

There's also a ton of private campsites in Clinton/Tioga/Potter county, around the pine creek gorge, etc. Take him to Hyner View State Park (best view in PA) if you're going that direction.
Last recommendation would be Worlds End State park (1.5 hours away). Just like ricketts glen the DCNR operates a campsite, but it's surrounded by state forest if you want to do backcountry.
As for private sites I'm not familiar with KOA's, but you could do Delaware Water gap area between Milford and Stroudsburg, there's a bunch of private campsites there. Wouldn't recommend as much since you get all the riff raff from new york coming up there in the busy season.
