remember that winter camping requires different fuels in the canister, also the pipe in the pic related goes on the flame, that's to provide a pressure differential which allows the fuel to continue to flow from the canister even in cold temperatures, also the distance from the canister allows the use of a windshield, saving time and preventing the canister from overheating and blowing up in your face.
