>>2069217Compass plus cell phone/GPS is the best combo. Get your bearing and current location off your GPS, then set your compass and walk. I always carry a map as well just in case, but I can't triangulate my location at night and I don't usually need a compass or GPS during the day.
When choosing a compass the only important traits are durability, ease of reading the needle(coloured north/south) and ease of reading the numbers, some are just to damn small.
Had a Silva Ranger 3 for about 10 years and its been good.
