It's not bright (8 lumens) by today's standards but IMO they make AAA flashlights too powerful for their intended use anyway. It's the reliability and runtime that counts.

When /out/, why would you drain the battery with the max output mode unless you have spare batteries, and if you carry spare batteries, you could as well be carrying a proper sized AA flashlight, which has a better reflector, tail switch and tree times the battery capacity of a AAA battery.
