I sometimes feel like many outdoors men have never used a compass properly. The sun will only give you a vague direction. A compass will give you a precise direction, so precise that you can use it to triangulate your position on a map, and move with a precision of about 1000. With just your watch, your map is pretty much useless.
I seriously wouldn't venture in the wild with most people in this thread. If I had used the sun to hike around Siberia, Mongolia, Peru or Tibet, I'd be fucking dead. And believe me, I came to the rescue of countless people who got lost because "hurr we know the watch trick!".
