Spooky sounds are spooky
I camp at the Huron national forest in Michigan a lot. Every time I've gone I have heard the same spooky sound periodically all day and night. I have no idea what it is. I'll describe it and explain why some obvious explanations can't be the source of the sound.
The sound is a series of very low thuds. You can feel it in your chest as much as you can hear it. It's very quite but definitely audible and you can tell it's being produced somewhere far away. The sound lasts for about 4-5 seconds and the thud gets faster and faster until it's almost a hum at the end before it goes quite. It almost sounds like a basketball being dropped on the floor above you, bouncing faster and faster and then stopping all together once gravity holds it still on the floor. I haven't timed how long between each iteration of this sound but it seems fairly regular. Anyone heard anything like this before or have any idea what it could be?
Can't be an engine. The thuds start too slow for it to be an engine starting. It also can't be the sound of tires rolling over the sound stripes on the freeway for the same reason. The thuds start to slow.
I can't be the wings of a large bird either. The thuds are too quick at the end to be anything big enough to make a sound that loud.
There is a town about 5 miles away but other than that it's all forest. I have never heard this sound anywhere else. Wilderness or in the city.
Help me out guise. It spooks me out
