>>397444> doubt you'll find anything with all of your desired attributes for less than $300Agreed, I just don't want to fork over additional cash for a name on a label.
> down, gore-tex are expensive.I knew about the cost of GoreTex going in (from my hunting gear) and I'd actually rather go with
synthetic insulation over down (to avoid potential water issues) but can't seem to find a synthetic
insulated jacket that meets any of the other attributes I'm looking for.
> hip-length garments are warmer for standing around, but annoying for winter sports.Hip-Length are the shorter ones, Thigh-Length are a bit longer (both this pic and the one in my earlier post)
and Knee-Length are High Plains Drifter tier.
I just prefer a shorter hip-length jacket over a thigh-length coat but the elastic waistbands on almost
every hip-length one I looked at turned me off, as I hate having to do the Picard Maneuver everytime
I stand up.
> even waterproofness is undesirable in skiing/snowboarding because you perspire so much and get wet inside.GoreTex is the critical element for me, and why I'm having a hard time finding something I like.
There are all kinda "water resistant" jackets out there but I've already got one and while it's been
alright for a several years now, I vowed to get a GoreTex jacket after getting soaked last winter,
when the dry, fluffy snow turned to driving sleet in the midst of snow-blowing.
> wear under a rain jacket if out for a long time.Unless it's GoreTex, (or a similar waterproof yet breathable product) you're guaranteed to sweat
your ass off until you're soaked from the inside out.
The other coat I'm considering is L.L.Bean's "Nor'easter Commuter" coat, (pic related)
which is GoreTex with Thinsulate and is $250 but it only comes in Black, Navy Blue and
Old Man Khaki Tan.
But I figure if I'm already spending the money, I might as well spend another $50 for the
warmer down filling, a detachable hood and a color I like.
