I don’t get the “threatened” population bit either. There’s no way to know this other than the anecdotal evidence of “my buddy caught a bunch from the docks at night last year but not so much this year!!!” Maybe they are declining, maybe they are just hanging out in open water more, who tf knows.
I just like catching the occasional non-spotty myself.
