I pop it or reel it a little sometimes to give it action, but most often, I get the bite after about 10 seconds of stillness. Been catching a lot of crappie this way, some big bluegill, and the nicest bass I've gotten in 2 years. It could depend on what you want to target. I've noticed bass and sunfish in my area come in shallower to get their warmth during this transition, but crappie hang around over the deep, but closer to the surface, up until spawning time, which it doesn't sound like is happening there yet. Bring a little variety, and study what's going on. I have a lot of little fry scurrying about in the shallows right now, and so I am mainly mimicking them.
