I am a railroader and a lot of our mainline is way far into the woods if that counts. It can be pretty cozy and you see wildlife every trip. There is also no light pollution so the aurora and stars are really good. Some parts suck like having to walk through snow and bears popping up out of nowhere all the time. Nothing beats chilling in a caboose in the woods with the stove going and a fresh pot of coffee on a cool morning.
pic rel is 20 miles from the nearest road. I used to hop off the train and luxury camp in this area quite a bit.
