>>1488640That seems novel. Thinking more on it, perhaps you can use a drip tray to catch the run off. Then you can pour the run off directly in the locations you want to use it. That way, you'll have all your growing space and won't lose the resource. I'd also screen the holes on the bottom to prevent escapees. You may need to screen them from the inside in some manner. I'd have to try it for myself to figure out specifics.
>>1488641Yes, watermelon NEEDS good weather and heat. Seedlings themselves are very vulnerable to cold and wet conditions. Once they have 4-6 leaves they can normally be hardened off to worse conditions and still survive. Have some extra seeds on standby in case some of those fail.
>>1488647Yeah, I have some crooked trees because I didn't stake them properly. Lesson learned. That was before the invention of the internet. One of the trees, a granny smith, is still around and looks really odd. It keep tipping more and more. Its main trunk is at a 30 degree angle. lol
>blackberry trelisYeah, those only need like 1-2 ties per cane and you can often times just weave them back and forth a couple times through large opening trelis. Since they don't get huge per cane there's no real weight to hold and they will be cut off to the ground the following season after fruiting the previous season. So there's a continual cycle of replacement.
>apple treesProper pruning to allow good air flow through the leaves and around the fruit is also a big thing to reduce fruit disease. Then there's thinning of the fruit/flowers every season so that there's not too many. If the tree has a massive bumper crop one season then the next 1-3 seasons may not have any to speak of. Choosing the cultivar should also revolve around when it blossoms and when your last frost date is. So, you don't want an early-blooming cultivar in say Zone 4-5 because frost will most likely zap all the flowers.
