Realistically, you'd want more than a tent. Even if you have a heavy duty military tent, it could last awhile, but many tents aren't that durable.

Not sure what boomers have to do with this, but if you're talking -permanently- as in you cannot afford a house, just buy a camper vehicle. Even a van will be freezing cold in the winter, and you'd have to put money into that if you want to insulate it for living.
