For example, I remember reading at one time that some south american civilization would basically make underwater compost setups with fish parts that would reduce into a sludge that they'd then use to fill planters so they could harvest multiple crops per season. Also, it could have to do with those cycle farm things that have a fish tank at the bottom that has its waste water sent up into the plants, the poop in the water acts as fertilizer, then the water comes back down and gets filtered.
