>Have you ridden through any downpours?Yes. Many. Last year when I did the bicycling equivalent of the PCT (Sierra-Cascades route) I had rain for a week and a half in Washington and Oregon in late June. On this trip I had 2.5 days of steady rain.
>did those Ortliebs stay dry?Yeah, the Ortliebs are great. I keep all my important stuff in them (maps, camera, book, wallet, phone). My back panniers are axioms with waterproof covers, which keep them sort-of dry. That's where my food and clothing live, which I can accept getting a little wet.
Here, I'm back into farmland again, southeast of Sisters. The view would be nicer, if not for the clouds.
