Id also try to find out at much as can about the location before hand, you don't have too, but its more of a personal preference.
Its generally a good idea to have a some kind of air filter depend on the location, especially if they are not well ventilated. This is due to many old locations have asbestos as insulation or other toxins. A prime example of a gas mask saving my skin, was when I was a deep in an old office building, and we looked up at the ceiling, and it was COVERED in black mold, I would have been fucked if I hadn't anything on.
Also as far as actually finding locations, the best locations are the ones you find yourself, as the others that are more well known one google are much more likely to be ruined by graffiti, monitored more closely, or stripped of everything interesting. I personally just around on google maps and just drive around to find my spots.
