https://youtu.be/O8eQLavRaXMTerrain looked like pic related and it hadn't been raining much, so my guess is that the water came from underground and got stuck there somehow. It was also a large area, perhaps a square mile or so.
There were not any tree is the terrain was very flat, aside from distant mountains. Mild rolling hills, perhaps. Never seen anything like it before or since, or met anyone who has.
