Buy a kilt pen (to weight it down a little and keept ot tradition) and a nice Sporran (EXTRA POCKET), People generally are chill and people might ask questions. Dont be defensive douche if poeple ask why. Give them your honest answer and be done with it. For my fellow 'Murricans, Kilts make for great conceal carry (IWB, like with pants, this is because of muscle memory and if the wind picks up, you're not brandishing or accidental OCing.) But since you're an aussie, at least you can conceal deep pocket knives easily.
Honestly its a comfort thing and nothing more. There's a lot of clothing out there that will give you impressive range of motion without drawing out man-children or some one's "boy in a skirt' fantasies. Go nab one in good wool if you get one that's a tartan, if you want something modern, 5.11 when they sell them (its usually for about a month or two.) theres other brands out there, but they cost more and if you're just starting to get into wearing them. its going to be costly through other places.
If I've got pants on, I'll have my kilt rolled up in my day-out bag in case I need to change out for a concert or going on a a hike or something. They're easy to make too nd if you take your time and use decent materials, they're usually a lot better than the commercial options. (I keep my ID, bic lighter and a small light knife in mine. Nothing heavy, it is going to be swinging right where your bits are after all!)
