What length and manufacturer is it? Does it feel incredibly whippy or is it slightly stiff: meat spin or half chub? Your number one priority, if you don't already have it, is getting some line. You need 5x and 6x tippet, 3.0 and level line (can go higher in some cases), and tippet rings.
I caught 20 bluegill in less than 20 minutes with my tenkara rod the other day. The biggest issue was getting them off the hook. Today, I went to a nearby spot. Pic rel. My tenkara rod is not the stiffest but definitely not the lightest. I found that I can throw small articulated streamers without issue. My friend made a crankbait fly, and it is awesome. I know they already exist, but this thing is super cool.
