I've found that 6lb mono is as light as you can go and still reliability handle big fish, but it definitely gives you the ability to toss light lures. Ive caught my PB largie, my first muskie, plenty of steelhead, plenty of smallies, and plenty of hammer handle to 30+" pike. Just gotta use your drag.
