>>185487>did you have the spot reserved or was it first-come-first-served?It was first come first serve. The campsite I stayed at was the only one on its side of the lake, but about half a mile away there are 5 other sites that are bigger and actually a little nicer if no one else is there, which was the case this morning when I checked them out. Heres a pic of one of them.
>was this in a state/national park? It was in Oregon in the Siuslaw National Forest.
>what mistakes did you make/what were you prepared for?I used up most of my water cooking ramen because I spilled the first batch in the fire. I hadn't inspected the lake water yet at that point, and when I went to get some to boil, I saw some white shit floating in it. I was a little sketched out to drink it at first, but I boiled it extra long and flavored it with kool aid so it didn't taste like shit. I feel fine and this was over 24 hours ago now, so I doubt I'm going to get sick from drinking it. It took me a while to hang my food in a tree because I had never done it before, and it was getting dark at that time, so cut the piece of paracord that was holding the piece of wood I used to get the paracord over the tree branch instead of untying it. In the morning I went to burn the frayed parts of the paracord and it melted all over my hands which hurt like fuck, but the burns look fine now. Usually when I used to go camping with friends they would always start the fires, so I was a little unexperienced in that department, and it took me a while to light the fire, but I eventually got it. I also caught the bandana I was using as a pot holder on fire a couple times.
