Sure, if you're a hard-core backpacker you won't be using one but then again, you may not
be backpacking everytime and if it's car/truck camping with a bunch of friends, a patrol box
will come in handy (especially if they're tenderfoots with limited gear).
And even if you are exclusively a backpacker, a patrol box is useful for keeping all your /out/
gear safely stored at home and can be convenient for hauling your gear out to wherever you
plan to start your backpack trip.
