I had mixed results - On one hand, the ditch soil was far more rich, because it was basically virgin wild plant growth. But there were lots of slugs because it was so wet. I would just pick the slugs off the plants and drop them in saltwater every so often.
In the backyard, I had no slug problems - But the soil was worse, because it was basically fill that had been raped with lawn monoculture as far back as I can remember. Still, it provided about the same yields as the slug-infested ditch.
So, in short, I'd dry out the garden and improve your soil. Remove the growth providing shade for the little fuckers, and use that as compost for your garden. Maybe dig a trench to pull moisture away from the beds.
