Mine just ties straight onto the loops on the side of my hammock. It looks like pic related. They work by providing a layer of insulation underneath you that doesn't get compressed by your body weight.

I've a regular sleeping bag. I'm considering removing the fill from the underside though, but I'm hesitant. My new underquilt, pic related, is far better than the old one.

Layers and reduction of airflow. A few blankets or fleece or something hung under the hammock and then use safety pins to bunch the ends together and keep the ends from being open should work a treat. My first underquilt didn't work very well for that reason; there was nothing keeping the heat in on either end of the hammock, so it only kept my arse warm. My current underquilt (pic related) has been built so the ends are already gathered and air doesn't get out. I'll see if I can find a picture of my old underquilt setup... Should be something in with the Dartmoor trip pics.
