If I can look at your van and say someone is living there, then imagine a cop that roams around everywhere for years he will see you even faster than me. It helps to park in certain areas. Usually the "worse" the neighborhood looks to you the safer you'll be from cops. Parallel parking on the main drag is risky af. Find a residential area, but not McMansion, cops keep an edge out on the burbs. Walmarts are good bets but they want you to spend money, don't park in empty parking lots, it attracts attention of the cops. Usually some stores will have vendor trucks parked on the lot of you can spot a trend try blending in with them and you should be ok. Residential areas are generally not good because people do keep an eye on things, if you know someone in town and they let you park that would be best. There are endless discussions on this on forums and YouTube videos and comments. There is no set standard answer that will work everywhere.
In Europe in my experience cops couldn't give a fuck about a van parked, it's just another van. But in Europe thieves are bolder, they will try to get your shit if you're in a bad part of a major city, but that is basic human instinct that you'll be able to tell what is a good place or not all you gotta do is park there for a hour and walk around and observe
