I live in Europe and feel like people are too 'civilized'. Everyone understands the concept of hiking and seems to be fine with that, nobody will question your hobby if all you do is hike. But any sort of studies, or bushcraft, survival, wild camping etc and people will lose their fucking mind. Partly because they are envious that you are doing something so adventurous that they will never ever have the energy or motivation to do. And the other part because their peabrains literally cannot understand how someone can enjoy anything other than netflix, videogames and pornhub.
I read some stuff above, and I actually play videogames and like videogames. And on my lazy days or days with terrible weather or when I have no time for the outdoors (I work 50 hours a week sometimes) I do stay inside and play games. And I don't see the problem. You have to balance your life. Playing games should never stop you from going outdoors or vice versa.
Bottom line is that modern day civilization has domesticated humans to the point where anything out of the ordinary or non-civilized is considered a potentional danger, strange, odd. Carry a knife into the woods and if you get caught you will be fined more than likely. We aren't free and modern civilization was a mistake
