I can identify most of the local birds by sight (my brother can do them by call), and thanks to going with my bro I've seen a Golden Cheek warbler and a Black Capped Verio (two rare local birds). I enjoy it but haven't made it my life's work like my brother has. I do carry a bird book with me and it's nice having someone you can text a picture to asking "wtf is this bird?" and getting an immediate response.
