Looks like she missed the turn onto or off of the ridgeline. Even just a compass and/or a general idea of the trail would've been enough to know you shouldn't be walking E away from the ridge. I imagine it'd have been impossible to get a fire going in that wind. Could she have survived the hike down even if she didn't get lost?
