I would get out of the NW during the winter, head to either CA or NOLA, KCMO, etc. If you want try to get ahold of something called a Crew Change. It's a zine that has information on all the train yards in the country, even some in Mexico and Canada.
You can catch an IM out of Tacoma, WA every Sunday that will bring you directly to Oakland, CA. It takes 3 days and you need to be on the whole time. The stop list goes like this:
>- Seattle, WA>- Portland, OR>- Eugene, OR>- Klamath Falls, OR (shit hole)>- Dunsmuir, CA (great town to stop in for a break)>- Roseville, CA (do not get off here no matter what if you're on the train to oakland)>- Oakland, CAIf you're interested find some younger freight riders. Be wary though, as most of them are scumfucks or junkies. Have fun bud.
