I bring with me a thermal scope and a pvs14 monocular. My reasoning is this: These do me no good if they are sitting at home, a 1000 miles away from me. If you are going to make an purchase into these types of items, they will be either tools or toys. And there is nothing wrong with either of those two things. But if you are going to make an investment like this, why would you not want to have them on hand just in case? Inb4 "hurr durr, u gon get domed by a guy with a mosin" cope. Yeah, I probably will. But at least I can move at night with a low signature and have a better chance. And I can also have a chance to spot game (or people) that would be otherwise be missed.
The GI nvg bag makes a nice GP pouch that can be carried on the belt and I use it to keep my nvg head mount in, which gets tossed. All this stuff gets tossed in my carry on bag when I fly.
