This gonna be long...
So, now that spring/early summer droughts are becoming commonplace where I live, I got rid of my strawberries in their full sun place after 3 years with mediocre harvests (generally very small fruit that already started fermenting on the bush, most plants died already in 2016, the rest let their heads down once it goes above 30°C and was plagued with chlorosis), but then again I have a plant that seeded itself on the wall near my garage, a very dry, but rather shady place, but that one is producing like crazy, having nice big fruit, and behaving like an intermediate between once and everbearing (there's a main crop in late May, but more is trickling in until the first frost around November). Also sends out lots of runners which I'm currently trying to root, pic related. Maybe I discovered a new variety suited for my climate?
These runners I then want to build a raised bed for, in a semi-shaded place (in that spot provided by 2 nearby pear trees which will grow larger, and at the head end an olive tree which hopefully will make it through our 8a winters - the raised bed itself could provide some thermal mass for it and shield it a bit from the cold winter winds)
The raised bed will be 2m long x 1m wide x 1m tall. I can get 6 wooden stakes for free because I have winegrower family, but will have to scout places like eBay for the planks to cover the sides, because buying them new from hardware store would cost me €60
