I remember hearing people saying it was for some reason so I searched why on the internet today and the sites I visited said that it absorbs moisture and dries slowly but they also said that you should wear polyester instead, I don't like polyester I think it feels uncomfortable and it's not very breathable.
I have a heavy cotton stripped longarm shirt, kinda looks like something kurt cobain would wear to give you an idea, and I don't know why it would be a bad idea to wear. It's thick and made to be warm so if I'm outside it's probably too cold to be sweating all that much at least not enough to drench myself and I wouldn't go outside with just the shirt on I'd have layers over it so rain or snow wouldn't get it wet.
I know wool would probably be better but I don't think cotton would be bad either, especially clothes made to be warm.
