>>72748I have a lot of good memories of Yellowstone, so I can't say I have a favorite, but one of them that is definitely up there is about bumper-to-bumper traffic. It was when I was young, on the road near Jenny Lake, and a herd of bison were crossing the road. Traffic was stopped for miles, and we had finally gotten to the spot that was open where the cow-monsters were crossing. We were in a vanagon and, three cars in front of us, a huge-ass bull was taking his time, walking across the road. He stopped to pee on an expensive looking car in front of him, whose driver decided to honk. I just remember a giant bison stopping, mid-piss, turning to look straight at the car, then casually tipping his head in a nod, and bringing it back up with half the radiator on his head. As the kid of a family trekking from California to Wisconsin in a vanagon, this was action-movie-awesome.
I admit that Yellowstone is super-accessible, super-touristy, super-populated, and there are lots of the negative things that all that implies. But there are some really good reasons that it is jam-packed all of the time, and none of those reasons are because it's over-rated.
>>72751I haven't been to Yellowstone since Myspace was big, so I don't have any readily accessible (because yes... social media is where I keep my photo albums). The picture I'm posting is off my dad's facebook, and is of me as like... a five year-old in the 80s. It's a slide scan. I think that, at least, it does a good job of capturing our excitement at being there.
