Hello /out/!
Its been awhile.
This is my Ketchup & Mustard (Floribunda) Rose Bush. I've never had a rose bush survive barefoot planting and this lovely plant survived the winter and produced beautiful blooms last year. I don't know why there are now huge/tall shoots that have emerged as the plant was always in this location last year. Not sure what to do with them. Also, it seems there are tiny green bugs on the large shoot, some are aphids, the others, I don't know what they are. What would y'all recommend?
Should I let the shoot flower and cut it back down to the size of the rest of the bush? Also, I was thinking about using Neem Oil to ward off the aphids and to provide protection when it gets hot and dusty in Southern California (I'm Zone 10A) and Spider Mites nearly killed that same Rose Bush.
Also, my Ghost Pepper, Carolina Reaper, and Roma Tomatoes (all started from seed) are growing safely in my office. I know roses don't like any of the Nightshade plants but if they were all grown in separate containers in close proximity (e.g. my back door stoop in the picture), would bad things happen? The Roma tomatoes and basil will need to be transplanted into their own pot very soon so I'm wondering what to do.
