Seems like /out/ is becoming a quality board, figure I could get some good advice since I’ve seen a few park rangers posting.
I’m in a bit of a predicament, been studying engineering at a community college for two years. Over the past year I’ve lost my interest and motivation to the point my GPA has been going downhill. I’m not sure if I have enough of a passion to match the difficulty, and I’m just tired of the math as well.
If I forced my way through, I’d probably be capable to finishing the E.E. degree. It’s a big risk to transfer based on that though. Unless I regain my interest, or learn to like it, I’d imagine I wouldn’t become anything more than a mediocre engineer, since you really need a passion for that type of stuff. The main issue, of course, is the huge amount of money, as well as a few others.
What I’ve been thinking about is dropping engineering and pursuing a double major in whatever two environmental sciences work best for me. Possibility becoming a park ranger. The pay would be half, maybe even a third, but I am much more fascinated by all of that. I think it’d be safe to say that nature is a real passion of mine. I’d be okay with the modest life style, but I can’t help but think when I get older, with a wife and kids, that I’ll wish I had gone with engineering.
>tl;dr
>Studying to become engineer
>Might not be for me
>Still interested in science and the environment
>Thinking about being a park ranger
Any help is greatly appreciated.
