I tried out my stove again this past weekend (pic related) and came to a couple of conclusions. First of all since soda can stoves are basically just a device to boil water, it's starting to seem like my system is a little more bulky than it should be. The weight of it is negligible compared to the rest of the gear I carry, but the windscreen & coffee pot takes up a huge space in my pack that could be used for other items.
The stove can also be slightly difficult to light when it's down inside the windscreen. I'm using a fireplace lighter now but I'd like to be able to use a standard bic or even a match.
The coffee pot actually has more volume than what is needed for 2 people. Being made of thick stainless steel, it weighs more, is slower to come up to temp and requires more energy input than a thinner steel or aluminum container would.
I'm thinking that I need to switch to a 1 liter light weight boiling vessel and make a new smaller profile windscreen probably out of something like roll aluminum flashing.
