if you're finding it hard, start with a shorter sling. something no longer than the length of your fingertips to your elbow when held ready for firing. you can develop some scary accuracy in just a week of practice. longer slings will give you a longer throw, but are more difficult to get to grips with.
power wise, I certainly wouldn't want to get hit with one they punch through the side of a wooden shed like it was made of paper
