As a result, the weight difference is completely cancelled out for me. Having a backpack on the rack is super convenient as I can easily take it off and wear it during hike-a-bike sections. For the REALLY tough hike-a-bikes I can move almost all of the heavy stuff into the pack and onto my shoulders, making hike-a-bikes vastly more comfortable.
