Live bait always feels that way. If you're just fishing to have a good time, or get dinner live bait is fine! I use live bait to put away channel catfish, perch, and shellcracker to eat for dinner once a week or once every two weeks. But if I'm catching bass or crappie I pretty much only use artificials for the sporting nature of it. Fish with live bait if you want, there isn't anything in the world wrong with it especially if you're catching the bait yourself. I catch all of my worms in the back yard myself with flashlight (gonna go out in an hour or two to top off a can). I trap all of my own minnows and crawdads with minnow traps off my shore. I want to get a cast net and catch even more to target perch with. You would be remised to embark on the journey of fishing, and not explore everything live bait fishing has to offer. But don't forget the technique and challenge of having to mimic that living action yourself with a lifeless piece of plastic.
