Got our cow elk on opening day. While I prefer spot and stalk for moose and deer, I find it much more effective to pattern elk, and then sit and wait in the morning and near sunset when the move to feed.
During rut you can always call in bulls which is a blast. Two nights ago I called in a little spiker bull with a mouth reed just for shits and giggles.
